Befrow FW 23/24 during Paris Fashion Week

Befrow Fall Winter 2023-2024 collection during Paris Fashion Week.

Cubism is a highly conceptual art movement. It pursues the beauty of geometric shapes and the aesthetics of their arrangement and combination. Objects traditionally observed or represented from a single perspective are instead presented from a multitude of viewpoints, conveying the continuity of time and space.

This approach relies not solely on visual experience and intuition but primarily on reason, concepts, and thought. Picasso once said, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to paint like a child.” In art education for children, the period from 3 to 8 years old is called the “Master of Art” period. Three and 4-year-olds have an insatiable desire to understand the world around them. This understanding is not the same as knowledge for adults; instead, they begin to feel the world around them, free from the influence of prejudice, bias, and peer pressure. This unique feeling forms the foundation for the emergence of art.

Children draw what they know, not what they see. Their drawings are not copies of the real world. As many art masters have commented: we can not draw what we see, and precise depiction is not equal to art.

Gigi wants her new series to express that people should always see the world as children do. Once this perception instinct is lost, any creative expression will also be lost.
