24FASHION.TV: Hi Jordan! Congratulations on the new collection! It’s absolutely stunning!

Jordan Stewart: Thank you!

When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a fashion designer?

I had quite the journey of finding my way and building a career on the runway. That said, to summarize, I truly feel I was born with a passion and a direction for runway.

That’s amazing! Where do you usually find creative inspiration?

I am inspired by people, their characters and personalities. I am provoked by textures and palettes. My inspiration is more of a recipe of multiple ingredients.

That’s very interesting! Can you tell us a few words about your collection shown at New York Fashion Week 2020?

The SS21 Dream collection was a compilation of soft hues and textures. The first half of the production was my Pret-a-Porter followed by my gown collection. My collection walked day one of New York Fashion Week.

I actually had the chance to see it and was very impressed by bright colors and textures myself! I am wondering, what is your definition of fashion?

Fashion is a personal expression of an inward feeling on display.

How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?

Today’s fashion world is always expanding. We are always exploring new ideas and concepts as a community. I feel there is a strong sense of camaraderie amongst the Fashion Week community, now more than ever.

What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?

Social media feels like an open portfolio to the world, our lives are art galleries on display and open for those who will take the time to explore, It’s a tool of connection and expression.

How was your brand affected by Covid-19 lockdown?

We experienced a full stop for a few months until we found the courage to pivot and reinvent.

Did you have to adjust your collection and make some changes to it because of Coronavirus?

I designed my collection during the Pandemic, and I was greatly influenced by the global climate. I wanted to take people on a virtual journey of optimism using a soft palate.

What do you think about sustainable fashion? Should fashion be more sustainable?

I think that it is our social responsibility to find ways to become sustainable. Sustainable fashion is a big part of our brand identity and future.

What is your favorite part about being a designer?

I love that every collection allows you the opportunity to start fresh. There is perseverance in being a fashion designer. I once heard someone say – a collection for the public is seen every six months or so, for me a designer my collection takes a lifetime. I subscribe to this!

How do you want women to feel when they wear your clothes?

I want women to find the best part of themselves and own their inner beauty and power outward. I hope to be a part of that.

What comes next for RVNG Couture?

I am currently designing & preparing for NYFW FW21! I feel like New York is home. The show must go on!

We can’t wait to see it! Thank you very much and we wish you luck!
